Staying Safe

Here are some important tips for staying safe online and offline. Whilst this is not a definitive list of dos and don’ts, you should definitely read and take into consideration each one.

ONLINE

1) Take your time

Taking your time getting to know someone through the site is really important. Ask lots of questions and you’ll soon start to build up a picture of whether this could lead anywhere.

2) Keep Your Personal Information Private

Never give out personal information like your address, phone number or even real name until you feel it’s appropriate to do so. Never feel pressured to do something you don’t feel comfortable with.

3) Block and Report

If after politely declining interest from another member you find you’re still being bombarded with messages, simply block the member. You’ll no longer receive messages from them. If at any time you get inappropriate messages from another member then report them to us and we’ll investigate and remove their account if necessary.

4) Never Give out financial information.

This is a bit of a no brainer – but NEVER give out your credit card, account number, sort code or bank address - even if you’ve been chatting with the member for weeks and you think they’re your soul mate.

5) Choose an appropriate username

Choosing the right username could make a real difference in the type of members you get contacting you. Try not to include your real name and definitely don’t use something with sexual connotations – it just looks stupid!

OFFLINE

1) Speak on the phone

Once you’ve spent time chatting online, talking on the phone is a good next step to take.

2) Meet in a public place

When you agree to meet up, make sure you do it in a public place. Never meet at either of your homes and arrange you own transport to and from the meeting place.

3) Don’t drink too much

Know your limits. You might be nervous but don’t overdo the alcohol as it could impair your judgement.

AND FINALLY…

Be sensible and wise. If something doesn't feel right, maybe that person isn't the one for you. Also make sure you pray about it!
